Panel Shop Job Management: From Estimate to Repair Completion

A practical job-flow structure for panel and collision repair businesses managing estimates, approvals, parts and repair status.

Panel and collision repair jobs often involve more stages than a routine service: assessment, estimate, customer or insurer decisions, parts, repair, refinishing, quality checks and collection. Clear status management matters.

Create one job record from the assessment

Keep vehicle details, damage notes, estimate information and images or supporting notes associated with the same job where your system supports them.

Make approval status visible

A vehicle should not appear to be actively progressing if the shop is waiting on an insurer, customer or additional authority. Separate repair-ready work from waiting work.

Track parts and dependencies

Collision repair can stop when a single part is delayed. Record required parts, arrival status and any supplier issue so the production plan reflects what can actually move.

Use clear production stages

  • Assessment/estimate.
  • Waiting on approval.
  • Parts ordered.
  • Repair in progress.
  • Paint/refinish stage.
  • Reassembly.
  • Quality check.
  • Ready for collection.

Keep safety and hazardous-substance processes separate and current

WorkSafe has specific collision-repair guidance covering risks such as machinery, vehicles, flammable materials and hazardous substances. Job-management software does not replace those workplace controls.
